One Year of ARCA e-Learning: Revolutionising Online Asbestos Training
Since the launch of our e-Learning hub, we've made significant strides in offering online training solutions for the asbestos industry.
In January 2024, we introduced the Asbestos Operative Refresher, providing essential updates for asbestos removal operatives. Building on this success, we launched the Asbestos Supervisor Refresher in October. Finally, in December, we unveiled the Asbestos Awareness course, available in free and certified paid versions. This initiative also supports Mesothelioma UK, reinforcing our commitment to raising awareness and contributing to the fight against asbestos-related diseases.

Regulatory Compliance
ARCA’s e-Learning courses align closely with paragraph 251 of the ACoP, which outlines the mandatory training for employees performing licensable asbestos work. These courses integrate seamlessly with the Asbestos Management Institute’s (AMI) competency framework, endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as a "sensible and appropriate approach" to asbestos training.
Additionally, ARCA e-Learning supports the Asbestos Labour Feedback App (ALFA) criteria, enabling tailored training modules based on specific gaps or needs identified through ALFA reviews. Workers can choose a mix of e-Learning modules to address their unique training requirements, ensuring their skills stay sharp and compliant.

Here’s a snapshot of our available courses:
Asbestos Removal Operative e-Refresher: Comprehensive online training course specifically developed for experienced asbestos removal operatives who require knowledge reinforcement rather than extensive training. This course efficiently reviews core principles and expectations through seven essential e-Learning modules. The curriculum covers critical topics including health effects, asbestos properties and types, emergency procedures, proper use of personal and respiratory protective equipment, site safety setup, control measures and techniques, waste handling procedures, air monitoring protocols, and effective decontamination methods for people, equipment, and premises following HSE guidelines.
Asbestos Removal Supervisor e-Refresher: For experienced supervisors who need to update their existing knowledge without requiring comprehensive training. The course reinforces core principles and expectations through a series of e-Learning modules. The curriculum covers essential topics including health effects, properties, and types of asbestos along with emergency procedures; personal and respiratory protective equipment; establishment of safe asbestos removal sites; control measures, techniques, and safe work practices; proper waste handling and controlled removal techniques; air monitoring and non-asbestos hazard management; effective decontamination procedures for people (following HSE Method), equipment, and premises; work planning and site supervision; and site and decontamination unit clearance procedures.
Asbestos Awareness: Specifically designed for professionals who may encounter asbestos in their work environments. This crucial training is essential for a wide range of trades, including electricians, heating engineers, ventilation engineers, carpenters, joiners, roofers, plasterers, construction workers, demolition specialists, plumbers, painter decorators, and general maintenance workers. These occupations frequently involve working in areas where asbestos-containing materials may be present, making proper awareness and safety knowledge vital for worker protection.
Each course has engaging, interactive elements and assessments to ensure practical knowledge retention. Refresher training frequency may increase if significant changes occur in work methods, tools, or job roles or if competency gaps are identified.
